Multi-award winning and award nominated British actor and singer Richard Shelton has an acclaimed international career spanning theatre, music, TV and movies.
Described as 'The worlds leading dramatic interpreter of Frank Sinatra', Richard won 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' at the Adelaide International Arts Festival for his portrayal of Sinatra in 'Sinatra: RAW' which he wrote and starred in. He was nominated 'Best Actor in a Musical' (OFFIES, London, 2019) and 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' by the prestigious Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for his gritty performance as Sinatra in the hard hitting play, 'Rat Pack Confidential' on the London stage.
★★★★★ 'No one should take lightly standing onstage trying to BE Frank Sinatra, but Richard Shelton is quite simply phenomenal. He captures the essence of the man perfectly. His voice has exactly the right tone; he has that twinkle in his eye; he has the anger that sometimes flowed out of every Sinatra pore.” Mike Young, BBC, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’.
★★★★★ 'Richard Shelton’s masterful take on Ol’ Blue Eyes is a must see. Shelton’s vocals are remarkable, manifesting not only Sinatra’s sliding rhythms and nuanced phrasing, but also the timbre of that famous instrument - the veracity of Shelton’s flinty performance adds a fillip to his interpretations of the music.' – Donald Hutera, The Times, 'Sinatra: RAW'.
Richard was also been nominated 'Best Supporting Actor' for his portrayal of Detective Forbes in both the London and Chicago Horror Film Festival Awards in the multi-award winning short movie, ‘Do Not Disturb’. Currently resident in LA, Richard is best known to American TV audiences as Arnaud in ‘Jane the Virgin’ and Mr Benson in ‘House of Lies’. In the UK, Richard is known for his 2-year stint playing the charmingly murderous Dr Adam Forsythe in ‘Emmerdale’.
Richard has spent 6 years perfecting his debut US album, ‘An Englishman in Love in LA' which was recorded at Capitol Studios, LA and has collaborated with some of LA's finest musicians including young jazz talent and session musicians, including Frank Sinatra's band mates, Chuck Berghofer(bass) who was part of the legendary group, 'The Wrecking Crew', Mike Lang (piano) who played for Sinatra as his LA retirement concert in 1971 and multi-Grammy award winning drummer, Greg Field. Richard recorded his swing style influenced album, ‘Top Cat’ at London’s Abbey Road.
Richard has toured the world extensively, performing by Royal Command for both British and European royalty, at the world famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, Catalina Jazz Club, Vibrato and Vitello's Jazz clubs in LA, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Big Band.
