Richard is best known to UK TV audiences for his two-year role, as the charmingly murderous, Dr. Adam Forsythe in Emmerdale (ITV1). In the US, Richard is known for playing Mr Benson in ‘House of Lies’, the recurring character Arnaud in ‘Jane the Virgin’ and Lord Poodle in ‘The Britishers’.
Richard’s gritty portrayal of Frank Sinatra in the hard-hitting drama, Rat Pack Confidential’ saw him nominated as ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ (Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards) in London’s, West End.
His role as Detective Forbes in the short suspense movie ‘Do Not Disturb’ saw Richard nominated ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in both the London and Chicago Horror Awards.
Richard’s early life began in the international hotel industry. Aged 32, he gave it up to pursue his childhood dream to become and actor, and opened the Bridewell Theatre in London. His theatre company, ‘Breach of the Piece’ specialised in contemporising Shakespeare plays where his roles included, Launcelot Gobbo in ‘The Merchant of Venice’, Mark Anthony in ‘Julius Ceasar’, Dorset in ‘Richard III’, Sebastian in ‘The Tempest’, and Fleetbrook in ‘Molly by Mulligan.
Richard’s West End debut was playing Young Scrooge in ‘Scrooge the Musical’ opposite Academy Award nominee, Tony Newly (Dominion Theatre, West End), followed quickly by playing ‘The Narrator in the rock musical, ‘Carnaby Street’ (Arts Theatre), Harry Bright in ‘Mamma Mia’ (European Tour) and Mr Burke in ‘Something for the Boys’ (Barbican Theatre).
Other theatre roles include Hindley in ‘Wuthering Heights’ (European Tour), Sandy McKendrick in ‘Whisky Galore-The Making of a Fillum’ (Nottingham Playhouse and UK tour), Brian in ‘Love to Madelaine’ (Pleasance Theatre) and Sir Frank Connor in ‘Miss Nightingale’ (Kings Head), ‘Between the Lines’ (Edinburgh).
Richard’s site-specific theatre company, Openbox was designed to take theatre into peoples homes, hotels and any number of unusual locations. Richard performed Lord Bompass in ‘How She Lied to her Husband’ and Nick in ‘Love to Madelaine’ (Pleasance, Edinburgh).
Richard’s film roles include, Major Ian Thomas in ‘Palau’, Conrad Holmes in the award winning British cult film, ‘Brash Young Turks’, Detective Forbes in the multi-award winning short feature, ‘Do Not Disturb’, Monsieur Harvey in ‘My Week with Marilyn’, Trigorin in ‘The Rehearsal’, Colonel Marks in ‘Joker Game’, Mikey in ‘Primitive Technologies’, ‘Spaceman’, ‘I Capture the Castle’. Other TV roles include ‘Eastenders’, ‘Emmerdale’ (series regular) and ‘Family Affairs.
